More OPT Workers join The Machinists!

Winchester, On – Employees at Ontario Patient Transfer’s newest base in Winchester, south of Ottawa, have joined the IAMAW. They join members of IAMAW Local Lodge 1295 employed at OPT’s head office in Hamilton.
“Lack of any benefits and hours of work were the biggest concerns for these workers,” explained IAMAW District Lodge 78 Organizer Scott Jackson. The 20 ambulance attendants provide non-emergency ambulatory patient transfers from Winchester to Ottawa in the north, Brockville in the southwest and Cornwall in the southeast.
The IAMAW also represents patient transfer workers at Medi-Van in Winnipeg, Ambutrans in Toronto and Voyageur Patient Transfer Service in Sarnia.
IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense related industries.
