Machinists make Significant Gains at Kal Tire!

Sparwood, BC – Members of IAMAW Local Lodge 1857 make significant financial gains in their new collective agreement with Kal Tire.
“These members have a very unique skill set that demands above average compensation and this agreement reflects that,” explained IAMAW District Lodge 250 Business Representative Andrew Tricker.
Vulcanizers and Journeymen, also referred to as Tire Repair Technicians, received a $1 per hour increase to their base pay rate in each of the first two years of the agreement. The Lead Hand receives a 4 per cent increase above that of a Journeyman and the Charge Hand receives a 6 per cent increase above that of a Journeyman. A Janitor’s starting wage is now $14.62 per hour and temporary workers starting wage is $14.30 per hour.
Across-the-board wage increases for all categories are 2 per cent in the first year retroactive to August 1, 2011, 2 per cent in the second year and 3 per cent in the third year. Other agreement highlights include :
• Minimum monthly bonus of $500.00 to be paid by the last pay period of the month
• A $500.00 signing bonus paid upon ratification of agreement
The 18 members repair and recap large industrial tires for mining and construction industry of BC. The IAMAW also represents workers at Kal Tire in Alberta.
