Montréal, QC – Former members of Quebec union CSD, employed by S E A 2000 International, have joined the IAM.

“They have been waiting for 18 months for a new collective agreement and their employer refused to meet with their bargaining agent,” explained IAM District Lodge 11 Organizer Philippe Lapointe. “So they turned to the largest airport and aerospace workers union in North America during the open period which allows workers to change union allegiances.”

“Sometimes word of mouth is your best promotional tool and that was the case in this instance,” explained IAM Special Representative Robert Savoie. “They talked to some of our members from the airlines and aerospace industry and then approached us.”

“We held an information meeting with them in early October 2014 and a few cards were signed,” says Lapointe. “After that the cards began to pour in and we filed for certification and won approval.”

The 167 new members of IAM Local Lodge 1148 provide security on the terminal aprons, runways and construction sites at Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport and Mirabel Airport.
