Machinists Ratify with Staybridge Suites Hotel

Mississauga, ON – Members of IAM Local Lodge 1295 have ratified their first collective agreement with Staybridge Suites Hotel.
“This is a great first agreement for these workers,” said IAM District Lodge 78 Business Representative Kim Valliere. “This collective agreement is example of what a union can do for workers when given the opportunity.”
The three-year agreement provides wage increases of four per cent over the life of the contract. The workers were earning minimum wage prior to this agreement. Other agreement highlights include :
• Implementation of a grievance procedure
• Improvements to staff room for break periods and lunch
• Establishment of vacation benefits and schedule
• Establishment of overtime language
• Implementation of bereavement leave
The eight members consist of housekeeping and kitchen staff. The IAM also represents hospitality workers in Ottawa, Sarnia, London, Oakville, Brampton, and Mississauga.
