How To Join The IAM UNION
Joining a union is your legal right, and the law is on your side. So is the IAM!
In Canada, every worker has the freedom to join the union of their choice, and that includes participating in its activities. The IAM is here to support you every step of the way.
When a majority of workers decide to form a union, your employer cannot change your pay, benefits, or working conditions unless both you and the union agree.
Your union membership is confidential, just like voting in an election – only you and the union organizer will know if you’ve signed up.
The law also protects you from any retaliation for supporting or joining a union. If workers vote to unionize, your employer cannot change your working conditions without union approval.
You have the right to join, invite others to join, attend meetings, distribute union materials on your own time, and engage in lawful organizing activities, as long as it doesn’t interfere with your work or company policies.
Your rights are protected, and the IAM is here to support you.

What Employers Can and Cannot Do
Know your rights at work. This section outlines what employers are allowed and not allowed to do, with references to the Canada Labour Code and each province’s Employment Standards Act, so you can stay informed and protected.
Union Education
The IAM educational series helps members get a clearer picture of union life, what it means to join, what support you get, and why it matters.
