Calgary, AB – Negotiations between the IAM and Airport Terminal Services (ATS) have hit turbulence in Calgary. IAM members provide baggage and aircraft services to WestJet Airlines, United Airlines, Condor Airlines at the Calgary International Airport.

“We have been bargaining for a few months and it is moving terribly slow. The employer provided our bargaining team and with a substandard “final offer” package. This week, we took the employer’s offer out to our membership and it was turned down. Our members also voted overwhelmingly to go on strike. It is completely disrespectful to our members how this employer has handled themselves throughout this bargaining process,” said Kevin Timms, General Chairperson IAM District Lodge 140.

Continued Timms, “It is the will and the work of our members that make the aircraft move. They work in one of the most dangerous jobs in the world – in all weather conditions and 365 days a year. Airport Terminal Services need to get back to the table and negotiate a fair collective bargaining agreement. Our members feel disrespected.”

The IAM represents the largest number of workers at Canadian airports.
