For Immediate Release

Thornhill, ON – “If we hadn’t ratified this deal last night we would have been on the street with picket signs this morning,” explained IAM District Lodge 78 Business Representative Jim Snider.

The 55 newest members of IAM Local Lodge 235 ratified their first collective agreement with Sisley Honda which provides significant wage increases over the life of the contract. “Wages were all over the map and this agreement brings them into line,” said Snider. “This agreement brings fairness into the workplace and their paychecks are going to reflect that.”

Other agreement highlights include:

  • Inclusion in the IAM Pension plan
  • Introduction of the Honda Training Program Bonus which amounts to increases of $1-2.00 per hour depending upon qualifications in addition to regular hourly wages
  • Introduction of a grievance procedure

The 55 members include mechanics, service technicians, service advisors, service cashier/hostess, detailers, carwash/valet, lube technicians and custodians. “This was a difficult round of bargaining and I want to compliment the bargaining team of Joe Dela Pena and Mike Smith for their hard work,” explain Snider.

The IAM represents more than 1500 members employed in the automotive sector across Canada, including Vancouver Island, the lower mainland of British Columbia, Edmonton, Calgary, Fort Frances, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Toronto, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador.
