Machinists Ratify First Agreement with Empire Living!

North Bay, ON – Machinists members employed by Empire Living Centre have ratified their first collective agreement.
The agreement provides wage increases of 3 per cent in the first year and 2 per cent in the second and third years respectively. “Seniority provisions were a big concern for these workers when they joined us back in February of this year,” explained IAMAW Grand Lodge Representative Colin Cherry. “With this agreement, hours of work will be awarded by seniority and the members are pleased with the outcome.”
The 27 members consist of kitchen, housekeeping, reception, maintenance and nursing staff at the North Bay retirement facility. The IAMAW also represents workers at retirement homes in Toronto, Stratford, Bowmanville and Ottawa.
IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense related industries.
