Machinists Rock NDP Rally
More than 1,500 people attended an NDP rally at the Palais des Congrès in Montreal on Friday, 8 May, 2015. The Machinists sent 80 political activists to the rally to support NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair and the rest of the NDP team. On Saturday, 10 IAM delegates attended the NDP Quebec Council meeting and presented a resolution on aerospace which was adopted unanimously.
Speaking on the resolution was Dave Chartrand, IAM Quebec Coordinator who said,"
the most important thing about the whole process is that the NDP recognises tat aerospace is a value-added industry. The rate of compensation is 50% more than industrial sector and for every dollar invested in the industry, $5 is returned to the economy."
"The NDP is committed to procurement policies that will search within Canada before distributing contracts to foreign countries," said Chartrand. "The NDP will sit down with all the participants, including labour unions, to make sure aerospace continues to be a vibrant sector in our economy.”
