Machinists Sign Up More Patient Transfer Workers!
Kitchener, On – Employees at Ontario Patient Transfer’s newest base in Kitchener, west of Toronto, are the latest members of the Machinists. The newest additions to IAMAW Local Lodge 1295 bring the total number of IAMAW members at OPT to 182 at bases in Hamilton, Kitchener, Winchester and Arnprior.
‘These workers were looking for representation and a champion for their concerns over province-wide regulation and standardization of the industry,” said IAMAW District 78 Organizer Ralph Martin. The 60 Medical Attendants provide non-emergency ambulatory patient transfers between Waterloo Region and Perth-Oxford Counties to the west and Wellington County to the east.
The IAMAW also represents patient transfer workers at Medi-Van in Winnipeg, Ambutrans in Toronto and Voyageur Patient Transfer Services in Sarnia.
IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense related industries.
