Nugent Named to OFL Honour Roll

Retired IAM Grand Lodge Representative Jim Nugent has been selected to be inducted into the Ontario Federation of Labour’s Honour Roll for 2013.

Nugent joins Brenda Carrigan of OECTA, Beverly McCloskey of CAW Local 222, Jack Ostroski Sr., USW Local 2251 (deceased) and Logan Sellathurai of CUPE Ontario. The names of these five distinguished activists will be added to the OFL Honour Roll plaque on permanent display at the Federation’s office. Two post- secondary scholarships will be awarded in their names. “This is an important opportunity for the OFL to highlight and acknowledge the tireless and unsung service that Jim Nugent has given to the people of Ontario,” said OFL President Sid Ryan.

Nugent, a tool and die maker from St. Thomas, Ontario, joined the IAM in 1967. He was elected as a Business Representative for IAM District Lodge 184 in 1986, and appointed Grand Lodge Representative in October 1997, a position he held until he retired in December 2009. “This is a tremendous honour for Jim and justly deserved,” said IAM Canadian General Vice President Dave Ritchie.

Jim Nugent acted as the Master of Ceremonies for the awarding of IAM Membership pins
for members of IAM Local Lodge 1863 in Goderich in May of 2011.

Always available to protest workers’ rights, Jim is seen marching alongside
IAM Grand Lodge Representative Bill Shipman
during a rally in Toronto at the 2005 OFL Convention.
