Strike Averted at Avcorp – Machinists Ink New Deal!

Vancouver, BC – There will not be a strike at Avcorp Industries. Members of IAMAW Local Lodge 11 have ratified a new three-year agreement by a margin of 69 per cent.
“There were 22 days of full intensive meetings to reach this agreement,” said IAMAW District 250 Directing Business Representative Stan Pickthall. “This round of bargaining with this employer was the toughest in my experience and our bargaining committee of Keath Wilde, Grant Gibson and Kent Webster did an outstanding job.”
The three-year agreement provides for wage increases of 2 per cent in the first year, 3 per cent in the second year and 4 per cent in the third year. Other agreement highlights include :
• Shift premiums of $1.00/hour for afternoon and night shifts
• Design Validation Language – clarifies the need and requirement for engineering and production employees to work collaboratively in development and improvement of new designs
• Weekend Travel time improvements – first 8.5 hours will now be paid at time and one half
• Vision Care premiums increased to $300/year
• Chargehand rates increased – March 1, 2011 – $1.95; March 1,2013 -$2.15
• Sick Pay Bonus – incentive of 40 hours per year if employee uses less than 24 hours per year
Avcorp is a tier 2 aerospace manufacturer and the 360 members produce parts for Boeing, Bombardier and Cessna.
