Tragedy at Toronto Pearson International Airport

Ian Henrey

Toronto, ON – The ramp at Toronto Pearson International Airport is still a somber place following the tragic accident that took the life of IAM Local Lodge 2323 member, Ian Henrey late Friday evening.

“Our thoughts and our prayers go out to his family and his co-workers,” said IAM Transportation District 140 President and General Chairperson Fred Hospes.

Henrey, 24, an Air Canada Station Attendant, was killed when the baggage tractor he was driving flipped ejecting him onto the tarmac around 11:20 pm Friday April 22, 2016. Henrey, who was recently engaged to be married, had worked for Air Canada for just over nine months.

Peel Regional Police say the investigation into the accident will be handled by Human Resources Skills Development Canada because it occurred at the airport which is federal jurisdiction. The IAM will not have further comment until the investigation has been concluded and the results have been revealed.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
